Flowers

Was I reaching for you
Like a torch in the dark
Was I writing my name on your heart
Was I holding your hand
The night she didn't come home
Was I marking the land with pillars of stone

She plants flowers round your door
And waits for them to grow
Many years from now I'm sure
That they'll be beautiful
And I've kept you a space in my heart
But I wonder if she sees you in this light

Was I waiting for you
That night in the rain
Puddles in the tarmac and boarding the plane
When the city left you lonely
You crossed an ocean for her love
Let it not be said that here nothing grows in the mud

She plants flowers round your door
And waits for them to grow
Many years from now I'm sure
That they'll be beautiful
And I've kept you a space in my heart
But I wonder if she sees you in this light

How your safety divides us
I've been sitting in her shadow
Waiting for the time for us and
All of those years that I missed
When you're so sure she's what you wanted
Can't you see what you've been chasing is here

She plants flowers round your door
And waits for them to grow
Many years from now I'm sure
That they'll be beautiful
And I've kept you a space in my heart
But I wonder if she sees you in this light
And I've kept you a space in my heart
But I wonder if she sees you in this light
I wonder if she sees you in this light
