Resting Place
© Anne Sumner 2017
You're green grass, you're fresh air
I tried to take you somewhere
We started out as best of friend
I turned back to find it
Regrettably small-minded
You're not brave enough or smart enough
To see me as I am
And I was wounded at your hands
And I was still moving when you were standing still
You've already reached your resting place
And the fine line between love and hate
Is the blue print for my heart's mistake
That I would jump to love's conclusion
You're stubborn, you're lazy
Got no more use for changing
And I've been dragging myself down
I'm purely disuaded
Prematurely jaded
Wear your lack of understanding like
The great pretender's crown
You're my unsuspecting clown
And I was still moving when you were standing still
You've already reached your resting place
And the fine line between love and hate
Is the blue print for my heart's mistake
That I would jump to love's conclusion
If I'm wrong, and you're right
Then what's wrong in your eyes
If I'm blessed, and you're worse off
For having me around then
I'll go, all the same
It's not me who's to blame
And I could write a book about
The things that you have yet to learn about love
About love
It doesn't work without love
And I was still moving when you were standing still
You've already reached your resting place
And the fine line between love and hate
Is the blue print for my heart's mistake
That I would jump to love's conclusion
